 베벌리힐스
캘리포니아 (California) 주 로스앤젤레스 (Los Angeles) 군의 시인 베벌리힐스 (Beverly Hills)는 원래는 인디언이 살던 마을이었으나 에스파냐인에게 정복당하면서 엘란초 로데오 드 라스 아구아스 (El Rancho Rodeo de las Aguas)라고 불렸는데 1906년 로데오랜드앤드워터사 (Rodeo Land and Water Company)에 의해서 구획되고 이름이 붙여졌습니다. 초기에는 정착민들이 적었으나 1914년 시로 승격되었고 그 이후에는 완전히 주거지역이 되었습니다.
할리우드 (Hollywood)가 가까이에 있어 유명 영화배우나 텔레비전 배우들, 1970년대 후반 석유 부국에서 망명온 사업가들이 살기 시작하면서 호화로운 고급 주택단지가 형성되었습니다. 시내에는 믿기 어려울 정도의 아름다운 호화 아파트와 유명 호텔과 대형 백화점들이 들어서 있으며 특히 로데오거리 (Rodeo Street)나 윌셔거리 (Wilshire Street)에는 고급품을 취급하는 상점과 식당이 많기로 유명합니다. 이때문에 쇼핑을 하거나 할리우드 배우들의 호화주택을 구경하려는 관광객들이 몰려들어 관광지로 자리잡게 되었습니다.
행정적으로 독립되어있어 독자적인 경찰력과 학교를 가지고 있으며, 캘리포니아대학교 로스앤젤레스 캠퍼스 (UCLA)가 있습니다. 인근 해안에는 관광휴양지인 샌타모니카 (Santa Monica)가 위치해 있습니다.
